PMA Stress relief.
What the stress hormone, cortisol can do to prevent you from losing inches or weight.
Hello Seawives I am Kerrie from Kerrie’s PMA Fitness.
Personal Trainer, Gym Instructor as well as pre and post-natal qualified, Kettlercise and Boxing fitness trained. These are just a few of what I do in my everyday working life at PMA Personal Training Fitness, Tenby, Pembrokeshire.
Before I came into full time health and fitness I worked in the pharmaceutical industry for 10 years with 6 years of that time working in addiction.
After my final role within pharmaceuticals I was made redundant, so I decided to put into practice my Sport Science degree and become a Personal Trainer in 2012 to help with changing people’s lifestyle, help them with making better choices and educating them to be active to help with the mind as well as the body. The benefits are most definitely positive ones.
A Positive Mind will get Positive Results.
A Negative Mind will produce STRESS hormones and this in turn will prevent you from achieving any goal without a struggle.
When you set yourself any health and fitness goal the most important part you need to understand Seawives is the preparation and planning. Without this we are set to fail.
If we tend to fail we tend to get despondent, feel disappointed and low, less motivated and unable to control our stress levels and most definitely in turn we encourage our stress hormone cortisol to play a part in that failure.
What is STRESS?
Stress is a normal physical response to events that make you feel threatened or upset your balance in some way. When you experience stress your body goes into what we refer to as fight or flight mode. When we sense fear, danger, anxiety the body defences kicks into high gear.
The stress response is the body’s way of protecting you. When working properly, a positive is that it helps you stay focused, energetic, and alert. In emergency situations, stress can save your life—giving you extra strength to defend yourself, for example, or spurring you to slam on the brakes to avoid an accident
We get stressed for a number of reasons, work, money, children, husband on exercise or at sea, sitting in traffic or simply something is not going your way. So how do you cope with stress and how does it hinder your weight loss and affect your wellbeing.
What STRESS does to the body?
Stress can have so many effects on the body, mind, emotions and behaviour. So if you ever suffer with a headache, suffer with joint pain, have a high blood pressure, stomach cramps (IBS has been linked to stress) worrying, sleepless nights, loss of confidence, restlessness, injuries, and more think about what is going on in your life at that time that could be responsible for the way you are feeling.
How STRESS Hinders Inch Loss & Weight Loss!
Stress can make weight loss more difficult for many reasons. Stress can cause many of us to stress eat whereas others do not eat at all. So what stress category are you in? When we stress eat we tend to eat more, generally more of the wrong foods, sugary, simple, high in fat foods as they give us that taste satisfaction. Stress also causes the body to produce more of the hormone cortisol. Cortisol is a stress hormone that promotes body fat and makes it harder to lose weight, especially around the stomach. Finally when we are stressed we tend to sleep less. Less sleep, chronic fatigue causes the hormone ghrelin to rise. Ghrelin is the primary hunger hormone, and causes someone to feel hungry even when they don’t need to eat.
A stress non eater. For those people that lose their appetite weight loss is unhealthy and can cause dehydration, weakness, and suppresses the immune system. Overall health is negatively affected.
Have you ever started a new eating plan, diet or fitness program and the goal being to lose weight or inches (aka dress size)? Did you meet the goal that you aimed to achieve?
Did you make changes? BUT then find you were not getting the results you were aiming for.
I meet clients on a weekly basis who get extremely fed up because they are not meeting their goals as planned on their head. What I often advise and the best advice I can give is too relax.
Be realistic about all your health and fitness goals. If you have gained weight, you didn’t gain weight overnight, it will have been over weeks, months or years so you need to accept that it will take weeks, months or years to take it off again.
If you have never been that active before and what to start, make sure you set realistic goals and NOT start training daily. You are putting your body through stress by doing that, same concept you didn’t train daily so how can you expect to meet a daily training requirement.
Plan one to two days a week training and build it up. It doesn’t have to be at a gym it can be a simple home workout so keep your eyes open for Kerrie’s PMA Home workout article and online training packages.
In order to de-stress what can you do; Spend some quality time with your friends and family, make sure you also have some YOU time when you can get it so you can recharge your batteries. Exercise is great for stress and will improve wellbeing. It will release a happy hormone (endorphin), stimulate your mind and make you sleep better. Because you will be engaging in a healthy lifestyle you will also make better food choices so what are you going to do to free yourself from stress.
Think Positive, be Positive & Positive things will happen.
Positive Mental Attitude.
